Do you want to MAKE...dance1?
New Dance Platform is a free, independent and autonomous platform for dance creations. It aims to explore and encourage innovative and under- recognized choreographers in the long run, and enable them to present their work. From vision to presentation, New Dance Platform allows potential choreographers to share their work with the public.
Purpose and Goal
- To encourage the creation of new works
- To explore and cultivate potential choreographers in Hong Kong
- To enable interaction and cooperation among artistic peers
- To provide a platform for new choreographers to present and share their work
Calling for Proposals
Y- Space has the pleasure to invite proposals from choreographers or choreographic collaborations for New Dance Platform 2010. Assistance will be provided for selected artists to develop their concept into a production. Tickets will be sold for the performances. Selected artists will receive the following: performance venue, venue for rehearsals, presentation fees, marketing/ PR, administration and a performance honorarium. Applicants may apply on an individual or group basis. Interested parties are required to send a 15 to 20 minutes dance piece to Y- Space by September 2010. Submitted works must be original and not previously published/ performed.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be individual artists or choreographers
- Applicants may apply on an individual or group basis. The focus of the panel’s decision making would be mainly on the major artists/ choreographers.
- Major artists/ choreographers must be Hong Kong residents.
Submission of Materials for Consideration
- A detailed proposal, stating the artistic concepts, approaches, unique qualities and styles of the piece. A list of all choreographers’ names should also be included. The proposal can be in the format of written materials, graphics or other media forms
- Choreographer (s) name and resume. Work samples in the format of written materials, graphics or other media forms are welcome.
- Other information that you consider helpful for the panel’s decision making

Assistance for Selected Artists
Assistance will be provided for selected artists to develop their concept into production. Selected artists will receive the following: performance venue, venue for rehearsals, presentation fees, marketing/ PR, administration and a performance honorarium.
Selection Panel
A selection panel will be set up for New Dance Platform 2010. The panel will consist of experienced artists and choreographers, who will also provide counsel and guidance to the selected artists. The panel will ensure a fair and just selection process.
Selection ProcessProposal review- the selection panel will review all applications and proposals
Interview- shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview, which helps the panel explore further the artists’ styles and aesthetics.
Selection Criteria
- Originality and innovation of the work
- Practicality of the proposal, with precise goals and content
- Applicants’ experience and the quality of past work
