Y-Space was one of the first organizations chosen by the Provisional Regional Council as a Cultural Ambassador, and the Dance & Drum project brought site-specific dance to the public. Against the perception of modern dance being obscure and remote, Y-Space aimed to broaden participation in dance and to cultivate more spaces as performing stages.

Amidst blossoming Spring flowers and vibrant percussion music, Dance & Drum – Have Fun under the Sun invited members of the public to experience the pleasure of dance and rhythm, and to witness developments in the New Territories. Events included:

A Samba parade – inviting the public to join in the dance;

A dance exhibition – with maps in hand, viewers make their own ways to different areas in the park and watch site-specific pieces;

Main stage performance – open-air modern dance performance, with an MC introducing the project and an open dance workshop for the public.
